Easter Basket Tutorial

Last year I made a cute Easter Basket and posted a picture with a link to the tutorial on how to make it.  I've received a couple of emails recently letting me know that the link to the tutorial no longer works and they're wondering if I have the directions.  Of course I didn't save the directions because I was relying on that link to work in case I ever wanted to make another one.  That's okay though, because I figured it out!

Supplies Needed:

• (1) 3/4" x 9" piece of DSP
• (1) 1" x 7" piece of DSP
• (3) 1" x 6" pieces of DSP
• 13" of ribbon
• Sticky Strip
• Bone Folder

Note:  You can substitute card stock strips for the DSP if you'd like

Step 1:  The 3/4" x 9" piece of DSP is the handle.  Decide which side of the DSP you want showing on the outside of the handle and add two pieces of sticky strip to each end about 1/4" apart as shown in the photo below.

Take the 1" x 7" piece of DSP and decide which side you want showing on the outside of the basket.  Lay the paper so that side is facing down.  Put two rows of sticky strip on the back of the DSP as shown in the photo below.

Step 2:  Remove the backing off the two pieces of sticky strip on the 1" x 7" piece of DSP (set the handle aside for now).  Take one of the 1" x 6" pieces of DSP (the green polka dot piece in the photo below) and decide which side you want facing the outside of the basket.  Again, make sure that side is facing down.  Line up the top (1" side) of the green polka dot DSP with the top of the 1" x 7" piece of DSP.  Also, make sure the left edge of the green polka dot DSP lines up with the left edge of the 1" x 7" piece of DSP.  Once it is lined up, adhere it in place.

Step 3:  Take the second 1" x 6" piece of DSP and line it up next to the first strip.  Make sure the sides are touching and it's straight across the top.  Adhere it in place.

Step 4:  Repeat step 3 with the third 1" x 6" piece of DSP.  All three pieces should be aligned nicely.

Step 5:  Run the bone folder along the length of the first strip (the strip on the left) to gently curl the paper.  This is the same way you would curl ribbon on the top of a present with a pair of scissors.  Be gentle.

Step 6:  Take the first strip and gently bend it in the shape of a "U."  Take the bottom end and line it up carefully next to the third strip.  The two sides should be touching and it should be lined up across the top of the 1" x 7" piece of DSP.  Adhere it in place.

Step 7:  Repeat steps 5 and 6 with the second strip.  Curl it with the bone folder and then adhere it next to the end of the first strip.

Step 8:  Repeat step 7 with the third strip. 

Step 9:  Once the final strip is adhered in place, there should be about a 1" segment of the 1" x 7" piece of DSP left.  Pull the two sides of the basket together so that the strips on either end are right next to each other.

Once it's lined up along the top edge too, adhere the rest of the 1" x 7" piece of DSP in place.

Step 10:  Take the 13" of ribbon and tie a bow around the top of the basket.  Trim the ends of the ribbon.

Step 11:  Take the 3/4" x 9" piece of DSP and gently curl it with the bone folder.  Remove the backing from the sticky strip off one end and adhere it to the inside of the basket.  Remove the backing on the sticky strip off the other end and adhere to the opposite side of the basket (on the inside).

Step 12:  Fill the basket with some paper shred and an egg.  It will hold one small plastic egg or a Cadbury egg.  These are the perfect size to give as gifts to friends, family, co-workers, etc.

Gum Holder Video Tutorial

You will never guess what I've been working on.  It's something I haven't done in YEARS!  I made a VIDEO TUTORIAL all by myself!  Before I got divorced, my ex used to film the videos and edit them for me.  Once we split, all of the equipment went with him and I couldn't make them anymore. 

Thanks to you guys for buying my tutorials for sale, I was able to save up enough money to buy a camera that also has a built in video camera.  I also owe a huge thank you to Jen, a very dear friend of mine who lent me her mac so I would have a computer that could handle the video editing. 

I am happy, thrilled, ecstatic, etc. to share my tutorial on how to make these Gum Holders.

Stationery Box Video Tutorial

Back in June I offered this stationery box as my class project. 

It was such a hit that I decided to make a video tutorial.  Normally when I post a video tutorial I also type out all of the dimensions, score lines, etc.  Well, this project was so involved and has so many pieces that I decided to make a pattern for you to download.

Variation on an Origami Box

Today I have a new video tutorial to share with you.  I'll be teaching you how to make this box.



I got the pattern for this box from Sue Blair.  Sue doesn't have a blog, but she wanted to share this idea with other stampers.  So if you like this video, please leave a comment on this post thanking Sue for sharing the idea.  Thank you Sue!

This box is a variation of the origami box (these are not the directions for the box I made).  I made the two different boxes and took side-by-side photos so you can see the comparison.  Both boxes stared with a 7 1/4" square piece of Old Olive cardstock for the base.  Here's a side view.

Here's a top view.  You can really see the size difference in this photo.

Now I know many of you are sitting at your computer and you're not in your stamp room.  Well you can make this box with me right at your computer!  All you need is a few supplies and a small workspace.  I've seen how many stampers work and we can work in some tiny spaces!  Here's what you'll need...

• Pencil
• Ruler
• Bone Folder
  
• Scissors
• 4 3/4" square piece of computer printer paper (don't practice on your good cardstock)
• 7 1/4" square piece of computer printer paper

I also use adhesive in the video, but you don't need it for your practice box.  That way you can take it apart later to use as a pattern.

The base of the finished box is 2 1/8" square, the lid is 2 1/4" square, and the box is 1 5/8" tall.

I recently had a poll on my blog asking if people preferred video tutorials or picture tutorials.  I understand the need for both and the reasoning behind each one.  Unfortunately this project is very difficult to explain in writing even with pictures.  You really need to see the video.  I apologize to those of you who can't view the video.

Note Card Holder Video Tutorial

Father's Day Wallet Video Tutorial

Happy Monday!  I hope your Mother's Day was wonderful.  Mine was incredible.  My children all sang to me and gave me hand-made cards (I've taught them well) and presents.  It was so sweet.  Then my husband surprised me with a huge present...a Cricut Expression!!!  I couldn't believe it.  Then for dinner my husband fired up the grill and made grilled hamburgers, pineapple rings, and red potatoes.  It was so good!  I didn't want the day to end.

Now that Mother's Day is over, it's time to start focusing on Father's Day.  I was looking at Lorri Heiling's blog and she had directions on how to make a wallet out of cardstock.  What a perfect gift to make for the men in your life for Father's Day, a birthday, graduation, etc. 

The inside has pockets to hold four gift cards as well as a pocket to hold money.

I wrote Lorri an email asking if she would mind if I made a video tutorial on how to make the wallet.  She said to go for it so that's just what I did.    Enjoy!

Box with Scalloped Lid Tutorial

I have another video tutorial for you!  Yeah!!!  This video shows how to make this box with a scalloped lid.

Edited to add:  I used the 5-in-1 template to make this box.  This is a product that Stampin' Up! use to sell and it is now retired.  This was an item made exclusively for Stampin' Up! so no other company sells it.  You could try using a large can, plate, or some other round object to trace the scallops.



I originally learned how to make this box at Manager's Reception at leadership last year.  Kahanu Keawe was demonstrating how to use the 5-in-1 template and this was one of her projects.  I came home and immediately made one.  It's a very simple and elegant box design.  I love it.

Base of Box

• One piece of 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" cardstock.  Score it at 2 1/4" on all four sides.

Lid of Box

• One piece of 7 1/4" x 7 1/4" designer series paper.  Score at 1 5/8" on all four sides.
• Four pieces of 4 1/2" x 1 3/4" designer series paper for the corner scallops.
• One 30" piece of ribbon.
• I decorated the top of my box with a 3" x 3" card design.

Here are two boxes that I made last year.



I used the Happy Occasions stamp set and its coordinating Leaves and Swirls jumbo wheel to make this box--both of which are now retired. 



This box uses my favorite set--Roses in Winter.  I'm so sad this set is retired.  I still love it and use it.  Do you see something different on the bottom of the box?  I added feet!

Card Organizer Tutorial!!!

Remember when I posted this Card Organizer last week and I promised that a video tutorial was coming?  Well it's ready!!!  Here's a picture of the original Card Organizer I made...

I know you'll need the measurements for the cardstock and the score lines so here they are.

Cardstock for the Box (Bashful Blue)

• One piece cut to 7 1/2" x 12".  With the 12" side going across the top, score it at 2 1/2", 5", and 10 1/2".
• One piece cut to 7 1/2" x 8".  With the 8" side going across the top, score it at 2 1/2".
• Two pieces cut to 6" x 5 1/4".  With the 6" side going across the top, score it every 1/2" (1/2", 1", 1 1/2", 2", 2 1/2", 3", 3 1/2", 4", 4 1/2", 5", and 5 1/2")

Summer Picnic Designer Series Paper for decorating the box

• Two pieces cut to 7" x 5"
• Three pieces cut to 7" x 2"

Real Red cardstock to layer under the Designer Series Paper

• Two pieces cut to 7 1/4" x 5 1/4"
• Three pieces cut to 7 1/4" x 2 1/4"

Other supplies

• Two jumbo eyelets
• 4 pieces of hemp twine cut to 6" each
• 16" of Real Red wide grosgrain for the handle
• Dimensionals
• Crop-a-dial

• Any other items you want to decorate the box.  I added some Real Red wide grosgrain and a cherry scalloped circle medallion on the front flap of the box.

Originally the video was around 15 minutes long.  YouTube only allows you to upload 10 minute long videos so my husband and I had the difficult job of making the video shorter.  It may be slightly choppy as it transitions from scene to scene, but all the content is there and you should be able to follow it and make your own box.  Enjoy!

Origami Box with Window

Sorry I just disappeared last week.  I was laying in bed running a fever for two days.  It hit three of my kids too (thank goodness the baby escaped!).  My husband and I have been taking turns around the clock for three days taking temperatures and giving out medicine.  I think we're through it now--phew!!!

Despite all that, guess what I have done?  My tutorial!!!  In the video I'll be making this box.



For this box I used a white rub-on from the Love and Happiness Rub-ons set.  In the video you'll see me use an Old Olive rub-on (there was only one white one in the pack).  It's the same design but just a different color. 

The measurements for the box are

• DSP  8" x 8"
• Regal Rose 7 3/4" x 7 3/4" for the base of the box and 2 5/8" x 2 5/8" for the piece in the window
  
• Window Sheet 2 5/8" x 2 5/8"
• Ribbon 21"

Happy Bird-day!!

First of all, I want to thank all of you for sticking with me through these Google Reader problems.  I still don't know why the miscellaneous posts showed up on my blog feed, but it looks like the problem has stopped (I'm crossing my fingers).  Google Reader doesn't have any "live" technical support, so I don't think I'll get my questions answered as to what happened or how to prevent it from happening again.
