Coffee Cup Gift Card Holder Tutorial

As promised, I'm back with the tutorial on how to make the Coffee Cup gift card holder that I showed you earlier.  For those of you who saw Lorri's video tutorial , I made a few small changes.  The biggest one is that I made it a little shorter so that it would fit inside a standard size envelope. 

I know most of you can view video tutorials, but I wanted to make a picture tutorial as well for those of you who can't view videos online or for those who want to have a document to refer back to. 

Items needed:

• 10" x 4" piece of Pear Pizzazz cardstock
• 3 1/4" x 5" piece of Early Espresso cardstock
• 4 1/4" x 1" piece of Whisper White cardstock
• 4 1/4" x 1/4" piece of Whisper White cardstock
• 4 1/4" x 2" piece of Crumb Cake cardstock
• Pencil
• Ruler
• Sticky Strip
• Paper Cutter
• Stamps, markers, ribbon, etc. for embellishments

Step 1 : Score the 10" x 4" piece of Pear Pizzazz cardstock at 5".  Fold it in half.  If desired, run the cardstock through the Big Shot with an embossing folder or a texture plate for decoration.

Step 2:  With the folded side going across the bottom, make a pencil mark at 1/2" in from both the left and right sides.

Step 3:  Draw a line from the top right corner down to the bottom right pencil mark (1/2" in from the right side).  Do the same thing on the left side.

It should look like this when you're finished.

Step 4:  Using your paper cutter, cut along the pencil lines.  Erase any pencil marks left on the cardstock.

Step 5:  Add two rows of sticky strip to the inside of the Pear Pizzazz cardstock.  Make sure it's as close to the edge as possible.

Remove the backing off the sticky strip, fold the cardstock on the scored line, and adhere the front to the back.

Step 6:  Repeat steps 2-4 on the Early Espresso cardstock.  Mark in 1/2" from both the left and right sides, draw the lines from the corners to the pencil marks, and cut.

Step 7:  Add a piece of sticky strip across the very top (the wider end) of the Early Espresso cardstock.

Step 8:  Remove the backing off the sticky strip and adhere the Early Espresso cardstock to the 4 1/4" x 1" piece of Whisper White cardstock (I flipped the Early Espresso cardstock over for this picture).  Be sure to center it left to right and make sure the top edges line up.

Step 9: Insert the Early Espresso cardstock into the Pear Pizzazz cup.  The bottom of the Whisper White flap lifts up and should go over the front of the coffee cup.  It's difficult to see in the photo, but I adhered the 4 1/4" x 1/4" piece of Whisper White cardstock across the 4 1/4" x 1" Whisper White piece to make it look more like a lid.  I also corner rounded the top two edges of the lid.

Step 10:  Run the 4 1/4" x 2" piece of Crumb Cake cardstock through the paper crimper, adhere it to the cup and trim to fit.  Add a sentiment, ribbon, etc.  Decorate as desired.  Don't forget to add the gift card to the Early Espresso layer.

Top Note Gift Card Holder

I'm back home after traveling this past weekend to attend my 20 year high school reunion.  It was great seeing my classmates after all of these years.  I even got to go see my high school marching band perform.  That brought back so many good memories.  Of course while I was there I also got to see my mom, my sister, my nieces, and nephew.  It was a great trip and I had a wonderful time. 

I don't have the tutorial finished that I mentioned in the last post because I've been busy traveling.  I do, however, promise to have that done and posted in the next day or two.  I just have a couple more photos to take and some editing to do.

In the meantime, I thought I'd share with you a great project that Kathleen brought to my downline shoebox swap.

It's difficult to see in the photo, but the light blue layer was run through the Big Shot using the Snow Burst embossing folder.  Normally the snowflakes would be sticking out of the paper, but I turned the paper over so that the snowflakes were indented and dipped down into the paper.  I hope that makes sense.  It gave it a slightly different look that seemed to go better with the die cut snowflakes.

The Top Note die was cut a little differently so that when you open the Top Note piece...

Coffee Cup Gift Card Holder

When I was at convention in July, I participated in a Control Freak card swap.  The cards were all amazing.  One of my favorite cards in the bunch was from Lorri Heiling.  Here's my version of the card she made.

Gift Card Holder Tutorial

Recently I showed you this Gift Card Holder and told you I'd post a tutorial.

I finally finished the tutorial today so here we go.

Materials needed:

• 11" x 2 5/8" piece of cardstock
• (2) 2 1/4" x 3 1/2" coin envelopes
• 3/4" Circle punch (you can use a different size)
• SNAIL adhesive
• Velcro Dots
• DSP, Stamps, Punches, etc. to decorate the front of the Gift Card Holder

Step 1:  Stamp or wheel a design on the 11" x 2 5/8" piece of cardstock.  This step is optional.  I was going to wheel my sample, but forgot until half-way through the tutorial.  Oops!

Step 2:  Insert the 11" x 2 5/8" piece of cardstock into the paper scorer (11" side going across the top) and score at 3 1/8", 3 3/8", 7 1/4", and 7 1/2".

Fold the cardstock on all of the score lines and set aside.

Step 3:  Cut off the flaps on the two envelopes as shown in the photo below.

Step 4:  Insert the open end (where you just cut the flap off) of one of the envelopes into the circle punch and punch about 1/2 a circle as shown in the photo below.  If you don't have a 3/4" circle punch, any circle punch will work.

Step 5:  Starting directly below the punched out circle, run a line of adhesive straight down the middle of the envelope.  Do not put any adhesive down the sides or across the bottom of the envelope.

Step 6:  Adhere the two envelopes together.  It's important to line up the TOPS of the envelopes rather than the bottoms.  You can barely see the punched out 1/2 circle in the photo below.

Step 7:  Insert the envelopes into the Circle Punch.  Using the punched out 1/2 circle as a guide, punch a matching 1/2 circle in the second envelope just like you did in Step 4.

Step 8:  Take the 11" x 2 5/8" piece of cardstock and lay it vertically in front of you so the 3 1/2" section is closest to you.  Just like you did in Step 5, run a strip of adhesive straight down the middle of the back of the envelopes.  Adhere the two envelopes to the MIDDLE section of the cardstock.  As you can see in the photo below, the two envelopes are centered left to right and they are *slightly* above the score line at the bottom.  They need to be near the bottom of the middle section.

Step 9:  Repeat Step 5 a third time and run a strip of adhesive down the front of the envelopes.  Fold up the bottom section of the cardstock on the score lines and adhere it to the front of the envelopes.  As you can see in the photo below, the bottom flap should cover both envelopes entirely.

Here's a look at the envelopes from the top view once they are adhered in place.

By only placing one strip of adhesive down the center of the envelopes, this gives them flexibility so the recipient can easily remove the gift card and/or note that's tucked inside the envelopes.

Step 10:  Stick both pieces of the velcro together.  Remove the adhesive backing off one side and adhere them both to the top flap as shown in the photo below.

Step 11:  Remove the backing off the second piece of velcro and fold the flap down to adhere the second piece of velcro in place.  Once finished, it will look like this.

Step 12:  Decorate the front of the Gift Card Holder as desired.

Optional:  This Gift Card Holder can possibly hold up to four coin envelopes so long as the contents in the envelopes are not bulky.

Gift Card Holder

Today I've been working hard on a few different stamping projects.  I have some stamping deadlines that I'm trying to meet so I'm pushing myself to get as much done as I can.  I did, however, want to stop in quickly and show you one of the projects I'm working on.

Big Shot Box

Today I have been very busy, but I wanted to stop by and show you this quick and easy project I recently made.

I made this box using a new Big Shot die I purchased.  I cut it out and then wheeled the box with So Saffron ink using the Fast Flowers wheel.  I cut out a second scallop flap out of Whisper White cardstock and adhered it under So Saffron flap to help it stand out a little better.  Of course I had to add some ribbon and flowers.

I added a tag and another flower to the back of the box.  This box measures 3 3/4" x 3" x 1/2".  It's the perfect size to tuck a gift card inside.

Top Note Pocket Card Tutorial

Recently I posted this Top Note Pocket card and, as promised, I'm back with a tutorial on how to make it.

Materials needed:

• DSP: 1 piece cut out with the Top Note Die
• Cardstock: 1 piece cut out with the Top Note Die; scraps to cut out flower, leaves, and Round Tab punch; 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" piece for insert; 2 3/8" x 3 3/8" piece of Very Vanilla for insert
• Big Shot Dies:  Top Note, Birds & Blooms
• Ribbon:  Pretty in Pink Satin, Hemp Twine
• Punches:  1/4" Circle, Round Tab
• Embellishments:  Pearls, Vintage Flowers
• Adhesive:  Snail, Mono Multi Glue, Glue Dots
• Scissors

Step 1:  Place the piece of DSP cut out with the Top Note Die in the paper cutter, line up the two rounded edges on the 1" line, and score.

Step 2:  Fold the DSP on the score line and adhere it in place using some Snail adhesive.

Step 3:  As you can see in the photo above, the two rounded edges (on the striped part of the DSP) stick out on the sides.  Turn the DSP over to the back side and trim off the excess DSP that's sticking out.

Once you have trimmed off the excess on both sides, it should look like this.

Step 4:  Turn the piece of DSP over so the back is facing up.  Using the Mono Multi Adhesive, add a thin line of glue between the edge of the DSP and the stitched line made by the Top Note Die.  DO NOT put glue across the top.  Only put glue down both sides and across the bottom.  Remember, a little bit of this glue goes a long way.  Don't use too much.

Step 5:  Adhere the DSP to the piece of cardstock cut out with the Top Note Die.

Step 6:  Embellish the pocket card as desired.  I tied some ribbon around the top and added some flowers cut out with the Bird and Blossoms sizzlet dies.

Step 7:  Take a piece of scrap cardstock and score it about 1 1/4" from the edge.  Insert the cardstock into the Round Tab punch, line up the score line across the middle, and punch it out.  This will make it much easier to fold it in half for the project.

Step 8:  Adhere the Very Vanilla cardstock to the 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" piece of cardstock.  Adhere the Round Tab punch to the top and punch a 1/4" circle through the top of the tab.

Step 9:  Thread a piece of ribbon through the 1/4" hole and tie it in place with some hemp twine.

Step 10:  Using glue dots, adhere a Vintage Flower over the 1/4" hole.  Slide the insert into the Top Note pocket card.

Variation:  Turn this into a gift card holder.  Instead of making a cardstock insert, simply attach the Round Tab punch to a gift card and slide it inside.  Give it a try!  If you make something using this tutorial, please leave a comment with a link to your creation.  I'd love to see what you made.

As I promised yesterday, here is my tutorial for the teacher gift certificate book. 

Supplies Needed:

• Paper cutter/scorer
• Coin envelopes--this booklet can hold up to 5 (click here to read my other post about where to find coin envelopes)
• Crop-a-dial
• Crafters' tool kit
• 16" of ribbon
• 1 3/8" circle punch
• Stamps, DSP and accessories to decorate the booklet

Step 1:  Cut the open flap off your coin envelopes.  Open the flap and make sure it is sticking out to the right side.  Place it on your paper cutter and line up the bottom of your envelope (the sealed edge) at 4 1/8" and cut.

Step 2: Take the 1 3/8" circle punch and punch out a little notch on the open side of your envelope.  Be sure it is centered left to right on your envelope.  The notch makes it easier to get the gift certificates in and out of the envelopes.

Take your punched envelope and lay it on top of the next envelope.  Using the first envelope as your guide, punch a hole in the second envelope so that they both line up.  Continue punching notches in the rest of your envelopes.

**I punch one extra envelope so that I can use it later in step 9.**

Step 3: Put adhesive down the left side of your envelope (the gray line in the photo) and stick another envelope on top.  Continue the process until all of your envelopes are glued together.  Set them aside.

Step 4: Cut a piece of card stock 9 3/8" x 2 3/4".  With the 9 3/8" side going across the top, score your card stock at 3 3/4", 4", 8 3/8" and 8 5/8".  Fold on all of the score lines.

 

Step 5: Take your stack of envelopes and put adhesive on the back going down the left side.  Using the photo below as a guide, glue them to your card stock. 

Step 6: Fold your card stock on the left side so that it wraps up and around the envelopes.  Take your crop-a-dial and using the smallest hole punch, punch a hole 1/2" up from the bottom.  Be sure to center the hole from left to right as well.

Step 7: Repeat the process at the top so that you have two holes punched.

Step 8: Thread the ribbon through the holes and tie it in a bow.

Step 9: Now comes the fun part, decorating the envelopes.  I used Basic Black (3 1/2" x 2 1/2") and Holiday Harmony DSP (3 1/4" x 2 1/4").   Take the extra envelope that you punched and place your card stock on the right side of the envelope so you're covering up the notch.

Yes, part of the envelope is showing.  Don't worry.  When you glue this into your booklet, you won't see it because the ends of the envelope are covered by the piece of card stock with the ribbon tied through it.

Step 10: Using the notch as your guide, punch a hole through your card stock and DSP.

Step 11:  Decorate your card stock however you'd like.  Then glue it on your first envelope in your booklet.

See, the envelope doesn't show!  I pierced the paper in all 4 corners.  I also sponged around the edges of the DSP with Purely Pomegranate ink.  I printed the words on my computer and then cut them out and punched them with the ticket corner punch.  I also sponged the edges of the Purely Pomegranate paper with Purely Pomegranate ink.

Repeat this process until all of your envelopes are decorated.

Step 12: Close the booklet by taking the right flap and tucking it under the card stock with the ribbon tied through it.  Now it's time to decorate the cover. 

I decorated the cover just like my pages--sponging around the DSP, pierced holes in all 4 corners, even the dimensions of the black card stock and DSP are the same.

For the center image, I used the Merry Christmas stamp from the All Holidays stamp set and embossed it with black embossing powder.  I punched it out with the Designer Label punch and sponged the edges with Purely Pomegranate ink.  Next I punched out a black circle using the 1 3/8" circle punch.  I glued that on the back of the "Merry Christmas" piece.  Last I cut out a piece of black card stock that measured 1 3/4" x 1 1/4".  I punched all four corners using the ticket corner punch and glued this on the back of the black circle.

Gift Card Tutorial

As I promised yesterday, here is my tutorial for the teacher gift certificate book. 

Supplies Needed:

• Paper cutter/scorer
• Coin envelopes--this booklet can hold up to 5 (click here to read my other post about where to find coin envelopes)
• Crop-a-dial
• Crafters' tool kit
• 16" of ribbon
• 1 3/8" circle punch
• Stamps, DSP and accessories to decorate the booklet

Step 1:  Cut the open flap off your coin envelopes.  Open the flap and make sure it is sticking out to the right side.  Place it on your paper cutter and line up the bottom of your envelope (the sealed edge) at 4 1/8" and cut.

Step 2: Take the 1 3/8" circle punch and punch out a little notch on the open side of your envelope.  Be sure it is centered left to right on your envelope.  The notch makes it easier to get the gift certificates in and out of the envelopes.

Take your punched envelope and lay it on top of the next envelope.  Using the first envelope as your guide, punch a hole in the second envelope so that they both line up.  Continue punching notches in the rest of your envelopes.
