Spring Has Sprung Control Freak Tour

Welcome to this month's Control Freak Blog Tour. 

You're in for a real treat because the talent in this group is incredible, as I'm sure you just saw at Melissa Davies' blog. 

I haven't participated in our group's blog tour in quite a while, so I was nervous to join.  Once I saw that "Spring has Sprung" was the theme for this month, I knew I could do it.  When I think of Spring, I think of flowers.  So all of my projects have flowers.

My first project was inspired by the fact that Administrative Professionals Day is coming up soon (April 22nd). 

Isn't that cute? Who wouldn't want a set of monogrammed note cards sitting on their desk?  There are a dozen cards in the pouch, but there's plenty of room to add more.  I added an easel to the back so it can stand on its own on a desk.  I made a video tutorial to show you how to make it.

I had so much fun making my next project, that I got a little carried away.  It started out innocently enough by browsing on Pinterest for a layout for a simple thank you card.

I found a layout that I liked and made this card.  It's a little difficult to see in the photo, but the Basic Black layer is embossed with the Spring Flowers Embossing Folder.

Of course I had to decorate the inside of the card and stamp the envelope so it all coordinated.  Then I took a look at the catalog and saw how many different colors of 3/4" Chevron ribbon we had.

What was I supposed to do?  Make one in as many colors as I could--of course!

Can you blame me?

Yes, I even took it one step further.  What's a set of cards without a box to put them in? (Pattern coming soon)  I told you I got carried away!  Once I started stamping I didn't want to stop.

Spring Sheltering Tree

This past week we held our downline meeting which meant that I had to make a card to swap.  That's the best part of getting together with other stampers--sharing ideas!  We decided to focus on the Sheltering Tree stamp set so I made this card for everybody. 

 

The DSP is from the Stacked with Love DSP stack in the Occasions Mini Catalog.  Even though Valentine's Day is over, you can still use this paper stack for other occasions. One side of the paper has hearts/Valentine's patterns on it and the other side is more generic.

The base of my card is Real Red card stock followed by a Whisper White layer.  All of the stamping was done on that layer of Whisper White.  I used the Oval Framelits to cut out a "window" from the piece of DSP so you could see the stamping on the layer below.

I stamped the sentiment on a strip of Whisper White card stock and cut one end using the Banner punch.  I wanted to add a little pop to the card so I added some Real Red flowers with Rhinestone centers.

I wanted the inside of my card to coordinate with the card front, so I added a strip of DSP and some stamped flowers.  Before I attached the DSP to the Whisper White card stock, I placed the DSP where I wanted it to go on the Whisper White card stock and drew a faint line across the top with a pencil.  Then I moved the DSP and stamped my flowers using the pencil line as a guide.  Once they were all stamped, I erased the line and adhered the DSP in place.

Sheltering Tree Card Set

Today I wanted to share with you a card set that I made for a friend's birthday.  She has a set of four wine glasses, each one painted with a tree in the four different seasons.  Of course when I saw the Sheltering Tree stamp set, I knew that I had to make a set of coordinating cards for her.

I used the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder on all four of the Baked Brown Sugar card bases. 

Every year in the spring, I see trees full of beautiful pink blossoms.  I wanted to capture that on the card so I used Blushing Bride for the tree leaves, the flowers, and the card stock layer behind the white panel. 

For the inside of the Spring card, I stamped the floral image from the Mother's Love stamp set.  I inked the image with my Blushing Bride and Pear Pizzazz markers so the flowers and the stem would be two different colors.

Summer is always beautiful and green so I used mostly Pear Pizzazz on this card.  I wanted to add a pop of color to the card so I stamped the bicycle in Marina Mist ink.

For the inside of the Summer card I stamped the butterfly from the Build a Bouquet stamp set in Marina Mist ink to tie in the color with the front.

I *love* the colors of fall.  I stamped the leaves and the grass/pile of leaves in Pumpkin Pie ink.  I wanted to add some more fall colors so I stamped some leaves in Cajun Craze ink as well.  I think this was my favorite card of the four.

For the inside of the Fall card I stamped the wheat (?) image from the For All Things stamp set in Hello Honey ink.

Of course I had to leave the tree barren in the winter.  I covered the ground in Pool Party ink so it looks like it's snow.  I also took the polka dot image (they're really flowers) and lightly stamped them around the tree so it looks like it's snowing.  After I finished stamping this card and went to put the polka dot image away, I realized that there actually is a snowflake image in the set.  Doh!

For the inside of the Winter card, I stamped snowflakes from the Letterpress Winter stamp set in Pool Party ink. 

I took all of the images that I used on the inside of the cards and also stamped them on the envelopes so they all coordinated.  I didn't get a photo of the envelopes or of all four cards together before I gave them away.  She was very pleased with the gift so that made me happy.

You Made My Day

Today I wanted to share with you a quick and easy card that I made for my swap card at my last downline meeting.

The stamp set, ribbon, and DSP were all FREE items I got through Sale-a-bration.  I started with a piece of Coastal Cabana as the card base.  I added a layer of Calypso Coral card stock that I layered with a piece of Best Year Ever DSP.  I chose one of the more mild patterns from the DSP so that it wouldn't compete with the sentiment for attention.

Next I added the long, skinny Crushed Curry card stock layered with another piece of Best Year Ever DSP.  This piece of DSP was a little bit more busy visually which is why I used a smaller piece of it.  I finished this layer off with a piece of Calypso Coral ribbon.

I stamped the sentiment in Coastal Cabana ink, punched it out using the 2" Circle punch and layered it on top of a piece of Calypso Coral that I punched out using the 2 3/8" Scallop Circle punch.  I attached it to the card using dimensionals. 

For the inside of the card, I simply layered a piece of Calypso Coral and Whisper White card stock the same size as the layers on the front.  Very quick and easy.

Remember, cards don't always need to be filled with lots of layers and embellishments.  Sometimes simple works just as well.  Your card recipient will be happy knowing that you took the time to make them something by hand, even if it was quick and simple like this one.  Thanks for stopping by!

You are Amazing

It's Monday and that means there's another great Mojo Monday sketch to try. I like to play along whenever I get the chance.

I thought this sketch was perfect for the Painted Petals stamp set.

I *love* this sentiment.  I think it works great for a thank you card, so I added the "thanks" from the Hello You Thinlits dies.  Whenever you cut out a small, intricate design like the word "thanks," it's always a good idea to use a piece of wax paper to help get the card stock out of the thinlit once it's cut.  I layered it in the wrong order and had to delicately pry my card stock out of the thinlit.  So please learn from my mistake.  The correct order is:

• cutting plate
• card stock
• wax paper
• thinlit
• cutting plate

Then run it through the Big Shot and the card stock will easily come out of the thinlit.

Once I stamped the sentiment, I cut it out using the Circle Framelits.  I wanted to layer the sentiment on a larger circle, but the next largest circle in the Framelits set was too large.  So I used my 2" Circle Punch instead.  It was exactly the width I was looking for.  I added dimensionals onto the back of the Circles and attached it to the piece of Painted Blooms DSP.

I wanted to focus on the Blackberry Bliss color throughout the card, so I used some of the Blackberry Bliss Satin Ribbon below the sentiment.  I filled the space below the ribbon with some Blackberry Bliss flowers with Candy Dots centers.

It's a little difficult to see in the photo, but I used the Spring Flowers Embossing Folder on the Blushing Bride layer.

The inside of the card is very simple.  I added a small piece of Blushing Bride card stock that I also embossed with the Spring Flowers Embossing Folder.  I finished it off with another piece of Blackberry Bliss ribbon to help tie it in with the front of the card.
