Noah's Ark

Today I wanted to show you the second baby card that I made.  As soon as I found out the card was for a set of twins, I instantly thought of Noah's ark.

I also thought of this saying to go along with it.

"They came by twos..."  That isn't a stamped image.  I typed the sentiment on my computer and printed it out. 

I made the card using a retired Stampin' Up! set called Definitely Decorative Noah.  I stamped the animals and the boat on Whisper White cardstock and cut them out so I could piece it all together.  Before I glued them all in place, I sponged some clouds on the background using a cloud stencil.

I made the waves with the Slit punch.  I inserted the cardstock into the punch as far as it would go and punched several half circles in a row.

When I was finished, it looked like this.

I used the pointed piece as the waves and sponged some blue ink along the edges to accent the waves.  I used a circle cutter to cut out the layers, and glued them on to a Groovy Guava Carousel Note.  I added some Liquid Pearls to each of the scallops.

I took a second Carousel Note and scored it with a ruler and a bone folder.

I scored a line sectioning off three of the scallops.  I added some adhesive on the three scallops (above the score line) and adhered the two Carousel Notes together to make it into a card that opens.

I'm really pleased with how this card turned out.  It's very rare that I picture something in my head and the actual card comes out exactly how I imagined it.  I usually end up having to tweak something because it doesn't work or doesn't look right.  Not this card!  I hope the mom-to-be likes it.

Quilt Card

I was recently asked to make a card for someone who was attending a baby shower for twin girls.  She had made the mom-to-be two quilts for her gift.  I instantly had two card ideas, but I couldn't decide which one to make...so I made them both.

First I'd like to show you the quilt card.

Before you ask, the pattern for this card came from the Dirty Dozen gallery on splitcoast.  It was originally created by Julie HRR years ago (please don't ask me when because I honestly don't remember).  Because these patterns are for subscribed members only, I can't share the tutorial or give you a link to it. 

I used the small flower stamp from Beyond the Basics to stamp on all of the strips of cardstock.  I stamped tone on tone on all of the pink cardstock and used Rose Romance and Melon Mambo on the Shimmery White cardstock.

I cut a segment of the quilt pattern off of another quilt block and glued it to the inside of the card.

After I mailed the card to the person who asked for it, she called me to tell me that the pinks I had used on the card were the exact same colors as the fabric she had used to make the quilts.  She hadn't described the quilts to me at all.  I just got lucky!

Congratulations

I'm finally on the mend from this awful cold that I've had.  You know it's bad when I haven't felt like stamping all week.  My head was just too plugged up to think creatively.  Today was the first day I've felt like stamping since Saturday. 

I have a gift certificate that I need to mail to my brother and his wife who just recently had a baby so I needed to make a card to send with it.  This is my sister-in-law's first girl after having three boys so I needed to make sure there was plenty of pink on the card.

The sentiment was too long to fit in my punch, so I stamped it on a 1" strip of cardstock and punched out each end separately.  The photo below explains it better than I can. 

Once the left side was punched out, I threaded the right side into my punch and punched that out.  

I kept the same layout for the inside of my card as well.  Quick and simple.  Well, I better run.  I'm actually in the mood to clean my house so I better take advantage of the mood while it lasts.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Baby Thank You Cards

I wanted to thank all of you who registered for my Dates to Remember class.  Registration is now closed.  However, if you'd like to complete the project on your own with your own supplies then you're welcome to purchase the tutorial.  It's a quick and easy project to make and it would make a great gift to give to your loved ones.

Speaking of loved ones...my amazing sister-in-law is about to have a baby.  I've put together a box of baby clothes for her and I decided to tuck some thank you cards in the package as well. 

After three boys, this is her first girl so I wanted the cards to be all pink and girly.  I went through my huge stash of designer series paper and found this cute polka dotted pink paper.  I think it's perfect for girl cards.  Of course you can't make a girly card without adding ribbon and a pretty scalloped border as well. 

I stamped my images in Basic Gray ink and then colored them in using my Pretty in Pink and So Saffron markers.  I finished the card off by stamping the sentiment in the bottom corner.

Baby Carriage

Do you ever go blog surfing and come across the cutest project that you just have to make?  That's what happened to me last night.  Check out this darling baby shower favor.

Isn't that adorable?  You can fill it with some small gift for the baby or some candy and a gift card.  You could even use it as a table decoration or place setting at the baby shower.  I got the pattern for the baby carriage here.

It's a little difficult to see in the photo, but I ran the Whisper White cardstock (the liner for the baby carriage) through the Big Shot using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder.  The carriage handle is a 1/4" x 5" piece of cardstock that I attached with Sticky Strip.  The cover for the baby carriage is from the Scallop Circle #2 Big Shot die.  I used the larger of the two scalloped circles on the die and cut it so that there are only 13 scallops on the cover.  If any of those directions or measurements don't make sense, then please ask and I'll try to clarify.

I'm an Aunt (again)!!!

If you remember back in May I mentioned that my sister had lost her baby last year just 3 1/2 weeks before her due date (you can read that post here).  What I failed to mention in that post was that she was pregnant again.  I didn't want to say anything until her baby was born. 

I'm so happy to say that last week my sister gave birth to a beautiful, healthy baby girl!!!!  When we got the announcement, my entire family breathed a collective sigh of relief.   

I have some darling pink baby outfits and several pairs of shoes to mail to my sister.  Of course that package will include a hand stamped card from me.



I used Julee's Mojo Monday sketch for the card

as well as the Rock-a-Bye Girl simply scrappin' kit.  I used my coluzzle to cut out the large Regal Rose circle at the top of the card.  The pink scalloped circle, green circle, and heart are all die-cuts from the simply scrappin' kit.  I punched out a flower with my Trio Flower punch, added a silver brad to the center, and adhered it to the heart with a dimensional.

The "so happy for you" sentiment is also a die-cut from the simply scrappin' kit.  I layered it on Regal Rose cardstock and then on Pink Pirouette cardstock.  Then I punched it out with the Wide Oval Punch.  I punched another Wide Oval out of Regal Rose cardstock, cut it in half lengthwise, and adhered it behind the Pink Pirouette oval so it would look layered.  What can I say?  I'm addicted to layers!  I finished the oval by paper piercing (freehand) around the edges.

Courtney's Closet

The other day I was looking through my favorite blogs.  You know how it goes...you look at one of your favorite blogs and they have a link to another blog, who in turn has a link to a pattern on yet another blog, who was inspired by yet another blogger.  Before you know it you've discovered several great new blogs that you just *have* to add to your blog reader. 

One of my recent finds is Libby's blog.  She has a weekly inspiration challenge using clothes from her daughter's closet.  Her little girl is so cute that you just want to pinch those chubby cheeks.  What a little doll.  I've never done an inspiration challenge before, but I had to give this one a try.

The layout just popped into my mind when I saw the dress.  Trust me, that doesn't happen often.  I usually need to look at many different layouts before I can put a card together. 

I immediately noticed the little blue and white stripes at the bottom of her dress.  To mimic that I used a piece of Bashful Blue Prints designer series paper that has thin white stripes in it for the largest panel on my card.  I added a row of ducks and flowers across the bottom to match the outfit too.  All of the ducks and flowers are popped up on dimensionals.

I made the white brads for the four yellow flowers by embossing the top with White embossing powder.  You can do this by holding the prongs of your brad with some tweezers.  Tap the head of the brad on your Versamark pad, dip it into White embossing powder, and then emboss it with your heat tool.  If the head of the brad isn't covered enough, you can dip it straight back into the embossing powder (it's hot so the embossing powder will stick to it) and heat it again.  Repeat the process until you're satisfied with the coverage.  Please remember that the brads are metal and they get very hot when you emboss them.  Set them aside to cool before you touch them with your fingers.

Double Challenge

There are so many fun stamping challenges that I want to participate in.  I decided that if I was going to have enough time to participate in all of them, I needed to double up.  So today's card uses this sketch challenge from SplitCoast...



and this color challenge from Kristina--Certainly Celery, So Saffron, Bashful Blue, and Close to Cocoa. 



I decided to use my By Ones and By Twos stamp set because I haven't had a chance to play with it yet.  I love that this set can be used for twins and for people who are adopting a baby. 

I stamped my Duckies wheel in More Mustard ink on So Saffron cardstock .  I stamped the onesie on Whisper White cardstock and then paper pieced it with some blue polka dot paper from the Summer Picnic Designer Series Paper.



I finished it off by adding a little ducky on the front of the onesie.  I think it's so cute!

Well, I gotta run.  I need to get a bunch of card samples in the mail.  I also need to finish up my "Class in the Mail" from last week and mail those off too.  That's just a small part of my never-ending "to do" list.  I'll see you tomorrow!  ~Dannie

Sweet One

I've had a card idea floating around in my head for a couple of weeks now.  I kept trying to find time to make it, but that never happened.  Last night I was determined to make it so I stayed up late and stamped.



I took a piece of Bashful Blue cardstock and cut the waves free-hand.  When I placed the two layers of waves on top of each other, it was difficult to see the waves on the front layer.  To fix that I sponged white craft ink on the tops of all the waves.

I stamped the little boat from Nursery Necessities and cut it out and popped it up on dimensionals.  I think the "sweet one" stamp with the moon and stars coordinates well with the little boat.  I've been wanting to use those two stamps together for a while now.

This week I got the Polka Dot background stamp and I'm so happy I did.  It goes well with anything in any color.  It's perfect to use on cards where it just needs something to finish it, but you're not sure what.  I wanted to have stars all over the large bashful blue layer, but that wasn't working the way I thought it would.  I used my Polka Dot background stamp and it pulled the whole card together.

Baby Card

Some friends of ours are about to have their first baby.  I'm so excited for them.  I'm going to their baby shower tonight and I needed to make a card.

They already know it's a boy, so that's why it's all blue.  It's difficult to see, but on the square blue layer I stamped different phrases from the Nursery Necessities stamp set.  I rotated through four different phrases--It's a boy!, So happy for you!, Welcome little one, and Little cutie.   I thought I was doing such a good job stamping them in a straight line.....until I added the yellow squares on top and saw how crooked they truly were!

Every layer on the card is attached with dimensionals.  It adds a lot of depth to the card.  I also had a lot of fun with my paper piercer.

I tried something new for the ribbon too.  I threaded it through the large oval.  First I punched out the large oval and then stamped and punched out the small oval.  Next I put the small oval on top of the large oval and traced around it.  I used my horizontal slot punch and punched two holes inside the traced line like this....

Then I threaded my ribbon through it (making sure the pencil lines were on the back) like this...

I added dimensionals to the back of my small oval and stuck it on top.  I guess I made an oval punch ribbon slide!
