Convention is flying by. I can't believe that day two is already over. Today was filled with several stamping presentations, a few more classes, and lots of great business ideas. They didn't share any exciting news today, but they told us they have a big announcement to share tomorrow afternoon. I wish I could post all of the photos I've taken so far (nearly 1,500), but I just don't have the time. I have to narrow it down to one or two things that I want to share with you per day. Don't worry, once I get home I'll keep posting more convention stuff. Today I wanted to show you a gorgeous creative journal that Shelli shared with us.
She took an old book and altered it to make a creative journal. First, she sanded the front cover, spine, and back cover of the book. Next she took some Gesso (you can buy it at any arts and craft store) and painted the entire cover. After it was dry she sponged ink on it, embossed some beautiful stamped images in clear embossing powder, and covered it with more sponged ink.
Here's a closer look at the sample she made. You can see the embossed swirled leaves and words showing through the sponged ink.
Here's the inside cover of her creative journal. Like yesterday, these pictures were taken on a big screen. Often I would go to take a picture and Shelli would move so it was a little blurry. Sometimes her hands would be in the way too. I think you can still see the general ideas and layouts though.
Here's a look at the two page spread. Shelli stamped right on top of the pages of the book.
She said on the left page she was going to add words spiralling down from the flower listing all of the different things that make her happy. It's a work in progress and she said it would probably take her over a year to complete.
On some pages she glued in envelopes to tuck in little notes or pictures.
For this page, she took apart her convention booklet and glued it on top of a page. She painted some Gesso on the pages so that she could write words to complete the phrase, "I am...."
She tore out one of the pages, sewed some designer series paper to it, and glue it back in the book. She said each of these pages are things that inspire her creativity and make her happy.
Especially this page--Shelli and Sterling. These pages are beautiful!
For the inside of the back cover, she glued in some designer series paper and highlighed an image that she liked. Isn't that an amazing project? I'm tempted to go home and try to make my own altered book. I've never done it before, but there's no wrong way to do it--so why not?
