Heart Flower Tutorial

As I promised last week, I went back and updated my last three posts with all of the recipe information for the cards.  I apologize again for leaving that at home so I couldn't finish my blog posts.  I also told you that I'd be back with some tutorials.  Today I want to show you how to make the orange heart flower on the right side of this card that I posted on Friday.

To make this flower you need one 3/4" circle and five hearts punched from the Heart to Heart punch (the middle sized heart).

All five of these hearts need to be scored down the middle.  There are two ways to do this.

First way:  Take a scrap of cardstock and score it down the middle.  Insert the scored cardstock into the punch (as shown in the photo below) and line up the score line so it runs down the center of the heart.  Punch out the heart.  I prefer to do it this way because it's much easier.

Second way:  Punch out all five hearts first.  Place each heart on the Simply Scored Tool and score each down the center.  

Step 1:  Fold all of the hearts in half along the score line and crease it with the bone folder.

Step 2:  Cover the surface of the 3/4" circle with SNAIL adhesive.  Take one heart and gently tack down the left side ONLY of the heart into the adhesive as shown below.  The right half of the heart will be sticking straight up into the air.

Step 3:  Take the second heart and slightly overlap the first heart.  Again, gently tack down the left side ONLY of the heart leaving the right side sticking up in the air.  

Step 4:  Repeat step 3 with the next heart.

Step 5:  Repeat the same process with the last two hearts until it looks like the picture below.  You may need to gently lift up on the first heart to be able to tuck the left side of the fifth heart underneath it.  Once all five hearts are in place, press them down firmly into the adhesive to secure them in place.

Step 6:  Add embellishments to the center of the flower if desired.
